Yvette, a native of California, returns to teaching dance classes after a decade in arts administration as the President & CEO of the Harlem School of the Arts and as the founding director of The Ailey Extension in New York City. Yvette has over 20 years of extensive experience performing & teaching dance throughout Europe, Russia, the U.S. and Asia, with New York City based dance companies: Ailey II, Eleo Pomare Dance Company, and Elisa Monte Dance. She completed her dance training on a full scholarship at The Ailey School in New York City.
She draws inspiration for her dance classes from American choreographers, Alvin Ailey, Lester Horton, Eleo Pomare, Ron Brown, and Elisa Monte. Her Horton-based dance classes stress clarity of line and shape using postures and poses often found in yoga set to rhythmic percussive music.
