Strawberry and Basil Water Replenisher Recipe

with Mira, co-owner of Nectar, Bodytree’s in house juice bar

September is around the corner and its time to get back into a routine, gently returning to your workouts and regular eating habits.

Try to eliminate high trigger allergens like dairy and gluten for a ten-day cycle and see how your body feels. Try to ease your digestion and start your day with warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice.  For breakfast, whiz up a healthy smoothie to gently ease your digestion and boost your metabolism into gear.

Follow your breakfast with a high fibre salad packed with summer veggies. Keep your dressings homemade to avoid any sneaky sugars known to come with packed salad dressings. End your day with a blended soup thickened with pulses and veggies. Stick to clean eats, fresh fruits and veggies, cook your own food daily if you can, take your own snacks on your routine or swing by Nectar for us to help you stay healthy in a fun and exciting way!

Treat your body right and start your fall cleanse with delicious summer inspired water rehydrators. Our body’s best detoxifier is rehydration. My go-to summer water cooler, best served poolside can now be enjoyed back at work or on a school run. The sweet strawberry basil blend will remind you of a carefree vacation, the lemon will help detoxify while the Manuka honey will gently sweeten and help boost your immune system by treating your digestive tract.

Serves 1

1 cup of fresh summer strawberries (organic if possible)

½ cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves

1 lt bottled water

1 lemon zested and squeezed

1 tablespoon manuka honey (optional)

* Wash and hull the strawberries, cut in quarters

* Wash and rough chop fresh basil leaves

* In a re-sealable water container (that fits in your fridge), add the strawberries, basil, squeezed lemon juice and zest to the bottle water.

* If using the honey, heat the honey and lemon juice over a low fire until the honey dissolves into the lemon juice, add to water and stir.

* Chill in the fridge for an hour or more, and enjoy throughout the day thinking of those long sweet summer days!
