Marika Niko

Marika Niko has been trained in classical ballet for 11 years in studios in London, UK and in Yokohama, Japan. Since then she has branched off to study other forms of dance such as contemporary dance, contact improvisation, hip-hop, modern dance, and Gaga. As she develops and finds her own movement language, she currently focuses on the philosophy and practice of Butoh, studying further and finding communities in New York, Berlin, and Yokohama. She is currently finishing her final undergraduate thesis in NYUAD, which uses her grandmother’s daily movements to preserve and recontextualize memories that exist in a disintegrating mind and body through dance.
