Our teachers have a personalized approach to yoga focusing on individual well being and relaxation of the body, mind and soul. All of our highly trained and caring teachers are keen to assist anyone needing direction or information and are open to comments, ideas and feedback.
We have many classes to choose from, beginner to advanced levels, and as we believe that yoga is for everyone, we’d like to assist you in finding the practice that suits you. Our classes foster Sangha (community), as well as compassionate enquiry of your own path.
Ashtanga: A system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive set series of postures – a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
Yoga Principles: This class builds your foundations to start any style of yoga.The ideal place for beginners (or those looking for a refresher or a gentle pace) to join.
Gentle Yoga: A mindful, soothing and energizing class with emphasis on being present in your body, breath and mind. Alignment, inward focus and mindfulness are tools used in this class.
Hatha: Hatha yoga refers to a set of asanas (traditional yoga postures) designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body – especially the spine – so that energy can flow freely. Hatha yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment.
Hatha Flow: This class is a more dynamic version of the Hatha Yoga class where the transitions between asanas (postures) are more fluid and aligned with the breath.
Kids Yoga: These yoga sessions teach kids the basics of yoga, aids better body awareness, self-control, flexibility and coordination. Yoga can help kids and teens carry these skills beyond class into their daily routines. Imagery and music are used as motivational tools in the Kids classes. This class is interactive and great fun!
Mummy and Baby Yoga focuses on strengthening the spiritual, emotional and physical bond between parent and child. Using interactive, slow-moving postures the class is ideal for mummies and babies newborn to crawling age. Mummy/Baby Yoga will help carry you smoothly through the busy early months of caring for a new baby.
Mummy and Toddler Yoga builds on Mummy and Baby Yoga but is targeted at the next phase of baby’s development and growth process, namely toddlers.
Vinyasa Flow: Dynamic and creatively sequenced vinyasa classes bring together gracefully fluid movements along with slightly more challenging postures and transitions. Expect to breathe, build strength, flexibility, balance, invert, play, focus, release and be more present. Please note that Advanced Vinyasa Flow has been created with the more experienced yoga practitioner in mind. Both encouragement and options will be offered to suit the student’s personal needs, allowing them to find their own edge between challenge and acceptance.
Power Vinyasa is an intermediate to advance level vinyasa-based practice that trains the mind and body to communicate in the most efficient way possible through visualization, breath and internal awareness in order to empower the practitioner in maintaining a focused and stabilized practice of highly dynamic sequences.
Pre Natal Yoga is designed to reduce the aches and pains during and after pregnancy in a nurturing and supportive environment. We will focus on special breathing techniques, opening of the hips, preparing the body for birth and assisting the body to recover post birth.
Stretch ‘n Snooze / Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga is a deeply focused, gentle and subtle form of yoga. Targeting the connective tissue by placing mild stress on the joints and ligaments in order to maintain them malleable and supple, yin yoga uses long held poses and diverse relaxation techniques. The poses are created and sequenced in order to release blockages in our body’s energy paths and break up adhesions in our connective tissue, called fascia. Because every muscle around a target area needs to be relaxed yin yoga becomes a deep journey of self discovery as to where we hold tension in the body-how we actually feel and process sensation. In these long spaces of silence and self reflection yin yoga can be a profoundly moving and spiritual experience. You have time to sit in your own company and observe who you are: all your thoughts, feelings and processes. Yin yoga might seem simple and pleasurable from an outsiders perspective, however the journey inwards requires commitment and courage. Truly listening to oneself, taking time and discipline to sit with and through our fears and rising resistance-this practice cultivates mental strength. Yin yoga offers the space for reflection and restoration. The main goal of the practice is exactly this-to make space within the body, space for the breath, space in between each thought. It is in this space we can hear the wisdom of spirit and find calmness of heart.
Kundalini: An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. Influenced by Shaktism and Tantra schools of Hinduism, the name is derived through a focus on awakening kundalini energy. Called by practitioners “the yoga of awareness”, it aims “to cultivate the creative spiritual potential of a human to uphold values, speak truth, and focus on the compassion and consciousness needed to serve and heal others”.
Therapeutic Yoga: Based on five element theory, designed to balance the flow of energy through the meridians (channels which run through fascia or connective tissue). The asanas are carried out with focus and lightness at varying tempos depending on the outcomes desired. Although it is posture based system, it is much more than that as it addresses a person’s emotional, psychological and spiritual levels, making it a powerful tool to address almost any issue.
Yin Yoga: A slow practice where poses are held for 3 – 10 minutes. Through these long static holds, our deep connective tissues (fascia) are stimulated and released. As we place gentle stress on different areas of the body, we stimulate the meridien lines, where chi flows, and also our parasympathetic nervous system. Using props such as bolsters, blocks and blankets, every posture is supported making the practice customised to your own anatomical shape. The sessions are focussing on organ health, mindfulness and meditation.
